Re: the 2009 Skyline

It has been confirmed that AppleSource officially announced a new timing routine in TimeNet 4.0 Professional to support seconds up to the .000000001th place, as to properly use TimeNet as a tool to time this beast on the speedway.

The Skyline Reborn!

Skyline Side

I was recently conducting some research about the Nissan Skyline R34 and R33 models as I have been passionate about the Skyline for many years, and I was planning on purchasing a cheap 240sx and converting it with a front clip imported from Japan. I stumbled upon some incredible news! Nissan Motors is officially showing the new rendition of the Nissan GT-R 2009 Model in the Tokyo Motor Show!

The sports car that has created a cult following has been beloved as not only a creation of style and beauty but also speed and flexibility. Since 1989, modern GT-Rs have always featured a twin turbocharged engine and electronically controlled all-wheel drive and steering. The last generation Skyline GT-R, the R34, was the first production car ever to feature an onboard computer that gave real-time dynamic readouts on a full color screen. Not to mention that it was fast and nimble enough to run head-to-head with a Porsche 911 GT3.

The 2009 Skyline continues with the tradition of speed, technology and beauty and does everything to build on it, making a truly drool-worthy stallion. Now for some of the hard facts 😉

An updated version of Nissan’s Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All – Electronic Torque Split (ATTESA-ETS) system. At its peak, the R34 Nur Spec GT-R’s ATTESA-ETS Pro system could send 100 percent of the torque to the rear wheels in mere milliseconds, allowing up to a 50:50 front/rear split when required. The rear axle even had an active limited-slip differential that allowed for a bit of tail-out action. But that was 2002, expect the next generation GT-R to feature an updated ATTESA system that pushes state-of-the-art even further; probably with upgraded torque split flexibility, including the ability to send torque side-to-side as well.

The GT-R will weigh in at a porky 3800+ pounds (1740kg). That will probably make it the heaviest sports car you can buy. BUT, at that same time it has outpaced cars weighing nearly a thousand pounds less! Nissan has obviously packed a serious punch under the hood to push it around the corners of the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey.

Although Nissan hasn’t officially released the engine specs, here are a few things you can expect: 3.8 Liter 450HP AWD Twin turbo version of Nissan’s VQ-Series V6 Seven-speed, paddle-shifted gearbox. More to come as updates get released! Happy drooling! I can’t wait to save the $70k for this baby…lol

I’m thoroughly convinced that…

sleep is a waste of time. I even used TimeNet to corroborate my findings. It turns out that 4 hours of working is in fact more profitable than 4 hours of sleeping.

TimeNet Law 1.6 is completely finished. Done. Gold Master and all that. It’s party time!

Official Release Notes

– Billing Matrix: you can set multiple rates for timekeepers and assign a specific rate per client.
– Interface enhancements.
– Completely re-written network core for auto-broadcast and live updating.
– Payments Center now lets you modify payments and notes.
– Remembers on quit if in local or network mode.
– Client names now show in the case window’s title.
– New Rate/Subtotal columns in the hourly case window (with option to hide or show).
– Clients can now be flagged as inactive; they’re hidden from all main windows
– Billing center now shows the total of selected bills at the bottom.
– Billing center now requires confirmation when removing files before re-generating.
– Issue with textual header font size on generated bills resolved.
– Billing center properly sorts columns by date and dollar amounts instead of alpha-numerically.

In addition, it’s been unofficially verified that the new version does in fact make your coffee taste better and improve your gas mileage. So long Starbucks and Prius! (Okay, so I still want a Prius…)

A TimeNet Pro maintenance release is being issued as well. This fixes a couple of issues with the interface and how it automatically enables and disables buttons, and adds support or the HRK currency, as well as allows the option of putting the currency symbol before ($12.50) a dollar amount, or after (12.50HKR).

Master of my Domain has finally arrived with the 1.5.5. update. Confirmed all issues resolved with saving, retrieving, and viewing data. No more random error messages, janky behavior, or unexplainable swapping of data. The reading and writing methods have been completely re-written, and in addition to the issues being fixed, this new format also now supports powerful encryption to ensure that your records are kept securely.

Look for these three releases coming to a download folder near you on Saturday morning, Sept. 29th. Yeah, that’s tomorrow. Anyone want to have a release party? Look us up.

Computers are a fragile, fickle thing…

One wrong character can throw everything off. I’ve been working for the last 5 hours trying to figure out why something wasn’t working: turns out it was a misplaced integer call. Yay. 5 hours to find the glitch that was fixed in 2.5 seconds.

The good news? TimeNet Law 1.6.

First the small stuff.

  • Billing Center now shows total of selected bills at the bottom
  • Billing Center properly sorts columns based on their data (dates, money amounts, etc) instead of alpha-numerically
  • Deleting folder contents before generating bills now asks for confirmation
  • Clients can now be either Active (shown like normal clients always have been) or Inactive (not shown in any TimeNet Law windows, but still in the records and can be changed back to Active at any time)
  • New Matrix Billing System

Here’s a shot of the main window with the new toolbar icons:

Matrix Billing allows Timekeepers to have multiple rates. Then, you can select at the client level which rate to use. Trés cool!

In addition, if you opt not to use the Billing Matrix, or even if you do, you can also set up each client to have custom rates instead of the default Timekeeper rate or a Billing Matrix rate.

I’ve leaked the beta to a select few attorneys as well as our Design and Quality Assurance departments. The final release candidate should be available tomorrow.

Whew. Goodnight!

TimeNet Law Makeover

TimeNet Law has a beautiful new interface, more bug fixes, and improved Address Book support. A special thanks goes out to all of the lawyers who sent me a report about the timer bug. I’m pleased to announce that this is fixed too.

For those of you who don’t know, TimeNet Law’s lickable new interface is all thanks to the awesome work of David Chapman. He’s heading up our marketing and design department and will impose his high standards of aesthetic perfection on every product in our lineup. Look forward to new interfaces for TimeNet Pro and MOMD very soon!

I’m not in the office right now, writing from my iPhone, but I will post some screenshots of the new icon and toolbars when I get back.

Enjoy your Saturday!

So the iPhone Pretty Much Rocks

This phone has allowed me to respond to technical support dispatches within minutes. It lets me view sales and track web traffic while I hike in the park. Get on iChat in the grocery store. And it keeps my mobile calendar synced to iCal. The iPhone lets me see a quick snap of my living room any time to make sure my pup is being good. It lets me view any file on my computer at home while I’m across the state. It is truly my mobile office in my pocket. This thing amazes me every day.

And it’s a phone! A nice one… the call quality is amazing, and the interface for your contacts, SMS texts, and visual voicemail is so refreshing from any other phone I’ve ever used. It’s just a home run. The iPhone allows me to do a lot of things. Like, post to my Developer Blog from the Waterfront downtown while I stare at the boats and enjoy the night air. I may be somewhere else, but I’m always right here.

Yeah, I didn’t get any, but that’s okay. Here’s the scoop:

  • Released a new version of the Professional template that shows how to use the tag
  • Fixed bug where the Quick Charge notes tag would appear in the invoice if you selected not to show notes

For more information about the Invoice Template bug (and how to restore your templates), go to the topic in our support boards that talks about restoring Invoice Templates (http://www.applesource.biz/supportboard-new/index.php?topic=590.0)

Master of my Domain – delayed briefly

MOMD 1.6 is still scheduled for release today, but it will have to wait until later this evening/night. I’ve got an all-day meeting in Eugene and won’t be back until late afternoon, and I’ve already been up all night trying to get it ready to go and it’s just not quite there. It’s close though!

AppleSource Goes Mobile

Okay, I finally did it. I bought two iPhones. A 4GB and an 8GB. If you’re expecting a review, this is all I have: no words! It’s slick. Too slick. Painfully slick. And oh so powerful. This is your entire office and living room. In your pocket. Movies, games, music, the web, email, contacts, a full calendar, and so much more.

iPhone

I’ve hacked it, of course. I’ll go into details another day. Right now it’s 4am and I need sleep. Tomorrow is the big update of TimeNet, TimeNet Law, and MOMD. To top it all off, I have to drive down to Eugene for an all-day meeting. I’d be totally nervous to leave right after three big releases, but this gives me a golden opportunity for a real-word field test!

Will the iPhone let me monitor server traffic, respond quickly to emails, view hits, sales, and send registration codes (via running my registration application on the iMac remotely with the iPhone Remote Control?) Stay tuned to find out! A full review of the iPhone at its best: as a full-fledged mobile office.

And then maybe I’ll tell you how I got my own ringtones, the Unix BSD subsystem, a Nintendo emulator with Super Mario Bros. 3, three of my favorite DVDs, games, a text editor, a customized dock and SpringBoard, and a full remote-access application on there, too.

Full review, more pictures of both phones, and Ian’s thoughts all to come. Check back!
