Big News…

First of all, I’ve upgraded to WordPress. I think this is a much nicer system for managing the Developer Blog, and it looks pretty slick!

Tomorrow, Monday, September 17th, 2007, is going to be a very big day.

TimeNet Law 1.5
Great new endorsements, fun new interface, and a huge maintenance release fixing dozens of bugs. The start of an aggressive marketing and implementation schedule. We plan to meet with at least one law firm per month, either in person or over the phone, to discuss in detail the features they need in a legal billing suite. This month? Dr. Guy Chism, Esq. Guy works in Cupertino, California, in the Apple Campus and has many contacts in the legal field throughout California. He’s going to help us ensure that TimeNet Law meets the standards of the American Bar Association and give us lots of great tips to make TimeNet Law the absolute best software for attorneys on the Mac!

You can read what he had to say about TimeNet Law 1.5 (“If you were here I’d be giving you a high five and handing you a beer. Damn!! I didn’t know I could appreciate an update this much”) here.

TimeNet 3.9.12
Maintenance release fixing a hang bug when creating invoices with certain templates, and a new invoice template utilizing the <date> tag. More progress is being made toward the 4.0 launch in October, which will include all new interface elements, lots of new features, and some other stuff we can’t talk about quite yet…

Master of my Domain 1.6
This is long overdue. Master of my Domain 1.6 will be a massive re-write of the entire data engine. All crashing and data-swap issues have been resolved! MOMD 1.6 will also include powerful encryption routines to ensure that all of your FTP and email login information is kept private.

In addition to these great updates, we’ll be releasing some new videos demonstrating TimeNet Law and MOMD, and be sure to keep checking back for more sneak peeks at the new AppleSource website, TimeNet 4.0 Professional, TimeNet Law 2.0, and more from your friendly neighborhoods geeks here at AppleSource.

My Take on the iPhone Price Cut and Rebate

One word. WOW. Apple rocks. I didn’t buy the iPhone early. And even if I had, I’d be a little upset but I’d get over it quickly. The bottom line, however, is this: I do understand why people would be mad, but that’s business. Prices drop all the time. New products are out. How many of us bought a PowerBook to find the new, better, cheaper one came out 2 months later? That’s life in technology.

That being said, this was probably one of the smartest things Apple could’ve done. First, making their customers happy. I LOVE Apple support. They’ve always been good at keeping us happy, but this is just unprecedented. Truly a first, and an amazing decision. Here’s why this will help Apple more than a multi-million-dollar ad campaign ever could:

  • Every syndicated news group will advertise this. Cost to Apple? $0 upfront.
  • How many people do you think will go to the Apple store and find something for JUST EXACTLY $100? No. They’ll buy more.
  • How many people will get on their phones (iPhones?) and tell all their friends and family about this?
  • How many people will absolutely be thrilled when just hours ago they were ready to boycott Apple forever?

It’s simple. Customer loyalty. Free advertising. And sending people to the Apple store to buy more Apple stuff. Another Mac sold is another Mac in their market share margin. Another accessory is another Apple-designed product out there to make someone say, “Wow, cool, what’s that?”

Brilliant. Simple. Beautiful. Undeniably an Apple move. Way to go Steve. Here’s hoping you have the best Holiday quarter ever. I know I’ll be stocking up! I’m on the way to my Apple store to buy the 8GB iPhone and some accessories and some other stuff for my new iMac, too.

Apple just keeps on rollin!

TimeNet News

Okay. Well, no screenshots just yet. I’ve decided to keep them on the hush for just a little while longer. But, I will let the cat out of the bag a little bit. AppleSource is partnering with a design and marketing group. What does this mean?Complete Rebranding

  • New toolbar icons
  • New stand alone icons
  • New logos – New manual

Website Enhancements

  • Better video tutorials
  • A new marketing strategy
  • Quicker access to information and help
  • Things that make you say, “Oh, WOW! That’s cool!”

In addition to the new visual enhancements of TimeNet and the TimeNet website, rapid-fire marketing strategies will be put into place for quicker development, boosted revenue (more SALES, more $$$), which means higher company moral, possibility for hiring on more developers, and an all-around better experience for all TimeNet users. These agreements and strategies are still being drawn up, but check back often for updates as they become available. We will soon introduce you to the guys who will make TimeNet the next breakthrough application for MacOS X. Sneak peaks, screenshots, and marketing leaks to follow.

Hope your weekend was great!

No Fear

So I’ve come to the conclusion that this is one of the best inventions on the planet:

Sobe No Fear. And coffee. Yeah, I’m a model of great health, I know. But I run my dog and hit the gym often, so it’s not all bad. Besides, this is what keeps yours truly going at all hours of the night to make your software better and better. I’m hung up on a couple of interface issues, and I think I need to step away for a few minutes. Speaking of the gym…

TimeNet 4.0: The Leak

Partial Payments. Color coating. Advanced taxes. Better rounding. Fantastic new templates. Still want more? How about better integration with Address Book? And iCal syncing? It’s all here. Plus, we’re adding a plugin architecture for syncing (laptop at home, computer at the office? Keep all timeslips current easily). Now if I could just get my hands on an iPhone… it’s a business expense, right? How about a Widget that runs a quick and slick timer that syncs to any project in your TimeNet library as soon as you bring that brand new iPhone back to a cradle?

Anyway, the move to Portland has been great. I’ve been networking with lots of very talented people, and getting nothing but wonderful and encouraging feedback. Yes, 4.0 should’ve been released by now. But the polishing stages are taking longer than expected, not to mention every day is slammed with things like furniture shopping, meetings with creative professionals and law firms (we wanna know first hand what YOU want in this software, after all it’s not for us: it’s for you!).

Along with the launch of TimeNet 4 you can expect to see some fantastic video tutorials, a constant (but not drastic or all-at-once) improvement of the interface, and some great new ideas that will make TimeNet that much easier to use, cooler to own, and more fun to show off!

WHEN?
I’m giving myself a deadline to have 4.0 out in your hands in October. The reason for the delay is worth it, I promise. We’re partnering with a visual arts and marketing group that is gonna make TimeNet a whole lot better then previously planned.

It’s gonna be a great Fall!
