Happy Birthday TimeNet!

Our little boy is growing up! TimeNet 1.0 was released on October 12th, 2003. We’re pushing hard for the big 4.0 release this month, which puts us right on schedule for a full point-release every year. A big thank you to everyone who has used and loved TimeNet and turned it into the great success it is today!

Gearing Up

This last quarter is going to be a good one here at AppleSource. Here’s just a sneak peek of what is to come before the new year:

TimeNet 4.0 Professional
A slew of new features, old features reworked in great new ways, brilliant interface enhancements, new tighter data structures that virtually eliminate data corruption, automatic backup features, and much more!

TimeNet Law 2.0
Bringing to light most or all of the feature requests we’ve received this year, TimeNet Law 2.0 promises to be a huge update. Implementing similar thinking behind TimeNet Pro’s breakthrough User Interface and smart new corruption-proof data structures, TimeNet Law 2.0 will be cleaner and easier to use, while bursting at the seems from functionality. How do we do it?!

Master of my Domain 2.0
Support for more Top Level Domains, a refined thinking behind the interface, smart folders, support for subdomains within each domain, and a few more tricks up our sleeves.

Great New Website
Our marketing and design geniuses, David and Jeremy, have been slaving away 24/7 on a top secret re-design of our aging website (and it looks and functions amazingly well). It is time to retire our old website to the dusty confines of Internet Archives and WayBack Machines and shed some light on the future of AppleSource. After all, our website should be as visually appealing and easy to use as our software, right?

Amazing New Videos
David and Jeremy, the very same geniuses behind our new website and application icons, are creating some amazing introduction videos for TimeNet Pro and TimeNet Law. These will be shot with HD cameras and professional tripod/motion equipment. We are interested in flying out to meet with users of TimeNet Pro and Law who would like to be in the video. This is a great way to bring publicity to your firm or business, as we would want you to introduce yourself in the video by telling everyone how great your company/firm is, and why you love using AppleSource products. Everybody wins!

Did Somebody Say Macworld…?
Oh yes. We’ll be there. Come say hi and get your free shirt/mug/mouse pad/laser beam.

Hallelujah!

Master of my Domain 1.5.5. is finally done! This new version improves who-is result parsing to auto-fill the expiration date. There are still some TLDs that are elusive, but we’re doing constant research to try and get them all supported! This most important thing about MOMD 1.5.5. is the completely new data structure.

Previous versions of MOMD were riddled with strange issues when reading/writing this data, which could result in data swapping, not saving, and at worst-case-scenario, crashing the application completely. Master of my Domain 1.5.5. fixes all of these issues.

It took a long time to isolate these issues one-by-one, so finally we brainstormed a completely new way to handle your data, and in extensive testing on multiple machines we have found this new method to be airtight. MOMD 1.5.5. also takes better care to preserve the security of your data, encrypting and hiding information in the Finder file system, and allowing you to now show the passwords in the main window as you’re editing.

Re: the 2009 Skyline

It has been confirmed that AppleSource officially announced a new timing routine in TimeNet 4.0 Professional to support seconds up to the .000000001th place, as to properly use TimeNet as a tool to time this beast on the speedway.

I’m thoroughly convinced that…

sleep is a waste of time. I even used TimeNet to corroborate my findings. It turns out that 4 hours of working is in fact more profitable than 4 hours of sleeping.

TimeNet Law 1.6 is completely finished. Done. Gold Master and all that. It’s party time!

Official Release Notes

– Billing Matrix: you can set multiple rates for timekeepers and assign a specific rate per client.
– Interface enhancements.
– Completely re-written network core for auto-broadcast and live updating.
– Payments Center now lets you modify payments and notes.
– Remembers on quit if in local or network mode.
– Client names now show in the case window’s title.
– New Rate/Subtotal columns in the hourly case window (with option to hide or show).
– Clients can now be flagged as inactive; they’re hidden from all main windows
– Billing center now shows the total of selected bills at the bottom.
– Billing center now requires confirmation when removing files before re-generating.
– Issue with textual header font size on generated bills resolved.
– Billing center properly sorts columns by date and dollar amounts instead of alpha-numerically.

In addition, it’s been unofficially verified that the new version does in fact make your coffee taste better and improve your gas mileage. So long Starbucks and Prius! (Okay, so I still want a Prius…)

A TimeNet Pro maintenance release is being issued as well. This fixes a couple of issues with the interface and how it automatically enables and disables buttons, and adds support or the HRK currency, as well as allows the option of putting the currency symbol before ($12.50) a dollar amount, or after (12.50HKR).

Master of my Domain has finally arrived with the 1.5.5. update. Confirmed all issues resolved with saving, retrieving, and viewing data. No more random error messages, janky behavior, or unexplainable swapping of data. The reading and writing methods have been completely re-written, and in addition to the issues being fixed, this new format also now supports powerful encryption to ensure that your records are kept securely.

Look for these three releases coming to a download folder near you on Saturday morning, Sept. 29th. Yeah, that’s tomorrow. Anyone want to have a release party? Look us up.

Computers are a fragile, fickle thing…

One wrong character can throw everything off. I’ve been working for the last 5 hours trying to figure out why something wasn’t working: turns out it was a misplaced integer call. Yay. 5 hours to find the glitch that was fixed in 2.5 seconds.

The good news? TimeNet Law 1.6.

picture-1.png

First the small stuff.

  • Billing Center now shows total of selected bills at the bottom
  • Billing Center properly sorts columns based on their data (dates, money amounts, etc) instead of alpha-numerically
  • Deleting folder contents before generating bills now asks for confirmation
  • Clients can now be either Active (shown like normal clients always have been) or Inactive (not shown in any TimeNet Law windows, but still in the records and can be changed back to Active at any time)
  • New Matrix Billing System

Here’s a shot of the main window with the new toolbar icons:

picture-2.png

Matrix Billing allows Timekeepers to have multiple rates. Then, you can select at the client level which rate to use. Trés cool!

In addition, if you opt not to use the Billing Matrix, or even if you do, you can also set up each client to have custom rates instead of the default Timekeeper rate or a Billing Matrix rate.

I’ve leaked the beta to a select few attorneys as well as our Design and Quality Assurance departments. The final release candidate should be available tomorrow.

Whew. Goodnight!

TimeNet Law Makeover

TimeNet Law has a beautiful new interface, more bug fixes, and improved Address Book support. A special thanks goes out to all of the lawyers who sent me a report about the timer bug. I’m pleased to announce that this is fixed too.

For those of you who don’t know, TimeNet Law’s lickable new interface is all thanks to the awesome work of David Chapman. He’s heading up our marketing and design department and will impose his high standards of aesthetic perfection on every product in our lineup. Look forward to new interfaces for TimeNet Pro and MOMD very soon!

I’m not in the office right now, writing from my iPhone, but I will post some screenshots of the new icon and toolbars when I get back.

Enjoy your Saturday!
